What is the Douglas County Public Servants Past & Present Tribute Gallery?

The Tribute Gallery is a community project celebrating the individuals who have served Douglas County through public service at any level — local, state, or federal — past or present. It will debut on July 4, 2026 at Douglas County Summerfest as part of America at 250 celebrations.

Who is eligible to be submitted?

Anyone who has served in a public service role in Douglas County, Kansas is eligible. This includes city and county government employees, public school staff, first responders, military servicemembers and veterans, library and museum staff, university employees, and state and federal employees who live or work in Douglas County — at any level, now or anytime in history.

When is the submission deadline?

All submissions must be received by June 20, 2026 to be considered for inclusion in the Tribute Gallery debut on July 4, 2026.

Submitting a Public Servant

Who can submit a public servant?

Anyone can submit — you can submit yourself, a family member, a colleague, a neighbor, or anyone you feel deserves recognition for their public service.

What information do I need to submit?

You will need the public servant’s first and last name, their era(s) of service, a brief history or reflection on their service (up to 500 characters), and a photo. You will also need to provide your own contact information as the submitter.

Can I submit more than one public servant?

Yes. Please complete a separate submission for each individual you wish to honor.

Photo Requirements

What kind of photo should I submit?

Please submit a clear photo of the public servant. Historical photos are welcome and encouraged. The photo should be of the individual alone or in a context that clearly identifies them.

What are the technical requirements for photos?

Photos must be at least 680px wide by 800px tall, no larger than 5MB, and in JPEG, PNG, or WebP format. Please see our Photo Submission Guide for tips on scanning or photographing older prints.

Can I submit a scanned historical photo?

Absolutely — historical photos are encouraged. Please scan at the highest resolution available. Our Photo Submission Guide has tips for getting the best results from older prints.

After You Submit

Will every submission be included in the gallery?

All submissions will be reviewed before inclusion. We reserve the right to decline submissions that do not meet our guidelines or cannot be verified.

How will I know if my submission was accepted?

You will receive an email confirmation when your submission is received. We will follow up if we need additional information or if there is an issue with your submission.

Can I make changes to a submission after I’ve sent it?
